Gentle Care for Growing Bodies

Osteopathic techniques are suitable for babies and children at all stages of development. From newborns to teenagers. Whether your child is experiencing feeding difficulties, sleep disturbances, or postural issues, osteopathy offers a gentle, holistic approach to support their health and well-being.

What Is Paediatric Osteopathy?

Paediatric osteopathy is a hands-on therapy that helps release tension, improve alignment, and restore balance in a child’s body. It’s particularly well-suited for babies and young children, as their bodies are still developing and respond well to subtle treatment.

A key part of this care is cranial osteopathy. A refined approach that focuses on the head, spine, and nervous system. Using light, therapeutic touch, osteopaths can detect areas of tension or imbalance and encourage the body’s natural ability to heal and self-regulate.

How Can Osteopathy Help?

Parents often seek osteopathic care for:

  • Birth-related tension or trauma

  • Feeding and digestive issues (e.g., colic, reflux)

  • Sleep and settling difficulties

  • Flat head syndrome (plagiocephaly) or head-turning preferences

  • Developmental or coordination concerns

  • Postural imbalances and growing pains

Osteopaths always tailor treatment to your child’s age and individual needs.

We work safely alongside conventional medical care, and often in collaboration with health visitors and midwives when appropriate.

Gabby treating baby Marley in 2025.

“I cannot thank Gabby enough for the incredible care and support given to my baby. We came in because my 3 month old baby struggling with baby reflux issues that were affecting feeding and sleep.

From the very first appointment, Gabby made us feel at ease with a gentle and reassuring approach. Gabby took the time to explain everything clearly and treated my baby with such care and sensitivity. After just a few sessions, we noticed a significant improvement in the reflux, and my baby seemed so much more comfortable and settled.

It’s been such a relief to see our baby thriving again.”

Understanding Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy is especially gentle, making it suitable even for newborns. During birth, the bones of a baby’s skull are soft and flexible to allow for movement through the birth canal. However, the strain of delivery - particularly during a long or difficult labour - can leave lasting tension in a baby’s body.

These physical strains may affect feeding, digestion, sleep, and general comfort. Gentle osteopathic techniques can help relieve this tension, encouraging relaxation and improved function.

Stresses and strains from labour or pregnancy can lead to unsettled behaviour and difficulties with feeding, winding, bowel movements, and sleeping. Relieving any physical strains with gentle osteopathic treatment can be very helpful and relaxing. The care of the entire family unit is of the utmost concern for an osteopath.

A Holistic, Family-Centred Approach

When you bring your child to see us, we take time to understand their full health picture. This includes taking a detailed case history, discussing any past trauma (such as a difficult birth), and exploring environmental and family health factors that may contribute to your child’s symptoms.

We always share our assessment and treatment plans with you: the parent or legal guardian, to ensure transparency and trust. If we feel your child may benefit from additional medical input, we’ll advise you to see your GP, midwife, or another appropriate healthcare professional.
